Salon del Gusto Symbols

OUTCOMES
This is a set of 12 unified symbols for Salon del Gusto, an international slow food event that celebrates organic, clean and fair food. In the final symbol set, 6 symbols represent the amenities at the event while the rest represent the event's key themes.

MY ROLES
I was responsible for designing the 6 out of the 12 symbols and unifying all 12 symbols. I also designed the symbol showcase postcards and the final poster.

APPLICATION SHOWCASE

The symbol set is designed to be used on the event's print materials such as functional signages and promotional souvenirs such as postcards.

01 RESEARCH

To start with, we researched about the event, Salon del Gusto, and selected 6 amenities and 6 themes as topics for our symbols.

We also decided that the targeted applications of the symbols can be functional signages at the event and promotional by-products such as souvenirs.

02 FIRST DRAFT

We sketched out 3 different directions to communicate the topic of each symbol.
03 STYLE GUIDE

In order to unify the visual style of the symbols designed by my teammate and I, we created a visual style guide.

1. Balance between geometric and organic form

2. Line-based style with thick strokes

3. Gaps between the lines: "take a break"

04 SECOND DRAFT

I created the second draft for my symbols based on the style guideline.

05 VARIATIONS

I continued to make adjustments to the form of the symbols.

06 EXPERIMENT WITH COLOR

My team also experimented with different color palettes. But we decided to leave the symbols b&w for better flexibility to be applied in different context.

07 FINALIZED SYMBOLS

I was also responsible for unifying all 12 symbols by making adjustments to the forms of the symbols and unifying the line weight, the gap width, and the level of details in each symbol.
